Will revealing the exact location of mobile phone masts generate business?
The Information Commissioner is forcing Ofcom to release data about where radio masts used for mobile phones are located. If it happens, it could be an interesting test of whether free data does indeed generate businesses (even though this comes from businesses, not government.) Some Local Authorities also publish this data. For example, in I have noticed in nearby Derbyshire, the local authority partnership publish mobile mast locations, and depending on which borough the data comes from, who the operators are etc.

Does anyone know how Ofcom responded to this and whether this data will be made available through some kind of public API? I can’t see anything recent on the Ofcom or ICO websites.
I am in the process of researching the viability of a new business idea and this kind of data is quite central to it.
Thanks.
