Minister of State for Justice Michael Wills announced the appointment
of Professor David Rhind, former Vice Chancellor at City University, Chair of
the Statistics Commission and CEO of Ordnance Survey, as the new Chair of
the Advisory Panel on Public Sector Information. Professor Rhind takes up
the appointment on 1 May 2008. The appointment is for a minimum term of
three years.</description>

OK, my immediate reaction is that it&#039;s a loss. Susskind&#039;s intellect, grasp of the issue and political nous are badly needed if this debate is to progress.

That said, it&#039;s obviously a disappointment that APPSI has not been more radical in its approach. Perhaps this was inevitable given the irreconciliable interests of its members. Perhaps now would be a good time for the government to reconsider what it wants from the body. Come up with a firmer PSI policy, in fact.</description>
